Her education focuses on developing creative vision, strengthening observational skills, and using light, color, composition, and narrative intentionally to create more meaningful and distinctive work.

Meg’s photography has received numerous international awards and has been exhibited in galleries in the United States and abroad. She is the founder of Yesteryear Retreats, host of The Creative Thread Podcast, and works alongside industry brands including SIGMA, Profoto, Imagen, and Adobe. She also volunteers as a photographer with The Gold Hope Project, creating portrait sessions for families affected by pediatric cancer.

Post-production should strengthen what was established in camera, not become an afterthought. In this seminar, Meg Loeks will walk through her editing process from RAW file to finished image, demonstrating how she uses color, light, contrast, and selective adjustments to establish visual hierarchy and guide the viewer through the frame. Through real examples, Meg will show how she determines what deserves attention, what should recede, and how post-production can strengthen both the story and atmosphere of an image.

Attendees will learn how to identify what an image needs before beginning an edit, how to use light, color, contrast, and saturation to create visual hierarchy, how to guide the viewer's eye through selective adjustments, how to refine color while maintaining believable skin tones, and how to create depth and atmosphere while developing a cohesive editing style.

Light does more than illuminate a subject. It shapes mood, directs attention, creates depth, and becomes part of the story. Join Meg Loeks for a hands-on photo walk exploring how she reads available light and decides when and why to introduce created light. Meg will demonstrate how direction, quality, intensity, and the balance between ambient and flash can transform a portrait while still allowing the environment to play an important role. Attendees will learn how to recognize and use different qualities and directions of light, how to balance ambient light and flash, how light can create depth, separation, and visual hierarchy, how to make intentional lighting choices based on story and mood, and how small changes in light and subject placement can transform a portrait. Recommended gear: camera and portrait lens. Attendees will have the opportunity to photograph during the walk, and Profoto remotes will be provided for use with the lighting setups.

(This class requires pre-registration. Please purchase it with your WPPI pass or add it to your existing registration.)
