Elevating Portraits: Creating Mood with In-Camera Lighting Effects

Portrait

Great portrait lighting is about more than simply illuminating a subject. It can create mood, depth, softness, and atmosphere before the image ever reaches the editing stage.

In this class, Irene Rudnyk will demonstrate how she approaches lighting for her signature dreamy portrait style, from creating flattering light on the face to separating the subject from the background and building dimension within the frame. She'll also show how she takes a traditional lighting setup further using simple creative tools and practical in-camera effects.

You will learn how DIY diffusion filters, reflective materials, crystals, fabric, foreground elements, and intentional lens flare can interact with light to transform an image. You will leave with practical lighting principles and experimental techniques.
