Gilmar Smith
Gilmar Smith is a Venezuelan-born photographer, creative director, and educator based in Orlando, Florida. Known for her fearless use of color, cinematic lighting, and imaginative visual storytelling, she creates bold commercial and editorial portraiture for brands, entrepreneurs, public figures, and publications. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, People, Variety, and other publications worldwide.
A Nikon Ambassador and KelbyOne instructor, Gilmar is an experienced international speaker who combines technical expertise with an energetic, accessible teaching style. She has presented at leading photography events including WPPI, Imaging USA, Photoshop World, BILD Expo, The Photography Show UK, and The Lightroom Conference.
Her education focuses on creative lighting, color, portraiture, visual storytelling, creative direction, and practical production techniques. Through her photography and teaching, Gilmar encourages photographers to experiment with intention, develop a distinctive visual voice, and use creativity to produce work that feels both personal and visually unforgettable.

Attendees will learn how to choose and build an effective color palette, how to use colored light while preserving flattering skin tones, when to use hard light, soft light, or a combination of both, how to shape light with modifiers, optical projection attachments, and gobos, and how to create atmosphere, depth, and dimension. Recommended gear: camera, portrait lens or standard zoom lens, fully charged batteries, and memory cards.
