Color, Shape, Atmosphere: How to Build a Creative Portrait Look
In this hands-on photo walk, Gilmar Smith will demonstrate how color, light quality, modifiers, shadow, and atmosphere work together to create distinctive images. Attendees will photograph a model through multiple lighting setups and learn how to adapt each technique to their own portrait work.
Attendees will learn how to choose and build an effective color palette, how to use colored light while preserving flattering skin tones, when to use hard light, soft light, or a combination of both, how to shape light with modifiers, optical projection attachments, and gobos, and how to create atmosphere, depth, and dimension.
Recommended gear: camera, portrait lens or standard zoom lens, fully charged batteries, and memory cards.
